The Karen Hospital is a multi-specialty hospital founded by eminent Cardiologists, Dr. Betty Gikonyo and Dr. Dan Gikonyo. This institution aims at accord the highest standards of medical care to all its patients indiscriminately.

Apart from offering services such as diagnostics, treatment, rehabilitation, palliative care, emergency, surgical and critical care we also educate the next generation of healthcare professionals through The Karen Hospital Medical Training College.

We have a capacity of 102 beds with 3 operation theatres and 26 specialties. We have also established 11 satellite clinics in different parts of Kenya. This is in a bid to bring quality and affordable medical care closer to the people. These satellite clinics are in Nairobi (Cardinal Otunga Plaza), Nairobi (Purvi House, Westlands) Nakuru, Thika, Nyeri, Meru, Karatina, Ngong, Ongata Rongai, Kitengela and Naivasha. Soon, more clinics will be launched in other parts of Kenya. This will go a long way towards reducing the influx of patients to Nairobi for medical services.

The hospital’s Accident and Emergency department works for 24 hours round the clock to handle all the incoming emergency and trauma cases. The trained staff at the department ensures that the patients brought in are given the right treatment and stabilized before discharging. The department comprises of a team of doctors, nurses, radiographers, laboratory technicians and pharmacists.

Consultant Clinics

The Karen Hospital’s multi specialists clinics functions for six days a week on an appointment basis. These clinics ensure continuity of care for the esteemed clients who receive access to all types of specialists under one roof. The specialty clinics are run by consultants and doctors on a time share basis to facilitate easy access for the patients to consult and receive treatment modality with the specialists.

12 Bed State of the Art ICU

The Karen Hospital Intensive Care Unit consists of a 12 Bed critical care unit which admits patients of all ages from neonates to adults. The ICU is manned 24 hours by ICU trained staff to monitor the patient’s vital signs and health conditions.

24 Hour Dialysis Center

The Renal Hemodialysis Unit at Karen Hospital functions throughout the day catering to all patients with kidney insufficiency. The unit comprises of ten hemodialysis machines and can accommodate three shifts of ten patients providing a 24/7 patient-centered quality renal care.The hospital also provides Intensive care unit hemodialysis services round the clock.

24 Hour Pharmacy

The Pharmacy at the Karen Hospital handles all the inpatient and outpatient prescriptions. The pharmacy is operated round the clock and dispense medicines on prescription from the casualty doctors and consultants from within and outside the hospital.

Ambulance Services

The Karen hospital has a fleet of ambulances well equipped with a wide variety of modern emergency care equipment such as oxygen, spinal and traction splints, oxygen, heart defibrillators among others for emergencies and planned transport services for patients.

Operating Theatres

The Karen Hospital has a world class Operating Theatre with three operating rooms which caters to both major and minor cases. The hospital also has a minor operating theatre to take care of the day cases which does not require any admission. The operating theatres adhere to high standard of cleanliness, and infection control measures are put in place to guarantee patient’s safety while undergoing a procedure.

Physiotherapy

The Karen Hospital has an exclusive physiotherapy department to provide treatment for prevention of illness, injuries and disorders by use of physical means such as exercises, electrical agents, soft tissue manipulation (manual therapy). The hospital also provides hydrotherapy services to tone up the body, stimulate digestion, circulation, and to bring relief from pain.

Laboratory

The hospital’s laboratory serves the main hospital’s needs as well that of its branches. The Laboratory is ISO 9001:2008 certified and adheres to the stipulated quality control measures to ensure high standards in the services provided.

Cath Lab

The hospital provides a Cath Lab facility for surgeries like Coronary Angiography, Coronary Angioplasty, Closure of some congenital heart defect, Treatment of stenotic heart valves, etc. to be performed. The Cath lab is equipped with ultramodern diagnostic imaging equipment to provide complete visualizations for treatment of abnormalities.

In-Patient rooms

The Karen Hospital has a general ward, an executive suite, an exclusive paediatric ward for children and private rooms. These rooms are aesthetically designed to provide maximum comforts with a minimal infection risk for our patients. The rooms provide a conducive and a friendly atmosphere for the patients to recuperate.
